Response to: Low molecular weight guluronate: A potential therapies for inspiratory muscle dysfunction and restrictive lung function impairment in congenital heart disease by Guiyuan He, Ruiting Zhou, Tingyuan Huang, Fanjun Zeng11Original work: Spiesshoef

We appreciate the effort made by He et al. to directly refer to our recent article on respiratory muscle function in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD, [1]) in order to discuss it in the context of their own previous work [2]. We would like to express our deep respect regarding the plethora of contributions which have been made by the authors and their affiliates to the field [3]. The latter comprises respiratory muscle pathophysiology and its underlying molecular and cellular pathways, and we would like to underline its potential future clinical importance for routine care of CHD patients [3].
